At some voice studios, teachers have such a strong preference for one style of music over another that it can start to feel like there’s something “less than” about contemporary styles. Pop, rock, indie, and musical theater can be subtly (or not so subtly) discouraged in favor of more traditional approaches. I don’t believe that serves singers.
I believe any style of music can be sung with strong, healthy vocal technique. Whether you love pop, rock, R&B, musical theater, or classical, your voice deserves training that supports your goals—not someone else’s preferences.
Great technique isn’t about forcing your voice into one sound. It’s about:
And that can be applied to any genre.
In my voice lessons, singers are encouraged to explore the music they actually enjoy. When you’re working on songs you love, you practice more, connect more deeply, and improve faster.
There’s no “right” genre—only healthy singing and authentic expression.
If you’re looking for voice lessons in Seattle that respect your musical identity and help you build real, transferable technique, this is a space where your voice—and your style—are fully supported.
